John R. Crawford

Inventor of the Crawford rule, now standard in all match play.

Crawford gave his name to the Crawford rule — the convention that the doubling cube is out of play for one game once a player reaches match point — which is now standard in every match. He also co-authored The Backgammon Book (1970).
