2 point Blitz (4) – 2 back each – 2 point Made

23rd April 2016 Posted in Backgammon Strategy, Cube, Reference Positions by

This article is the 4th part of my 2 point blitz series.  In Parts 1, 2, and 3, I looked at 2 point blitz boards, when the potential blitzer has made his 5, 4 and 3 points, respectively.

Black’s Position is the starting position in all Positions, which makes one side of the board easy to remember.  So, I will count the checkers in the range (ie on white’s side of the board).  I refer to the number of checkers on white’s side of the board as “checkers in the range”.  The idea is to get a list of numbers at the end of this series of reference positions.

In the current article, I look at the number of checkers in the range that is required for the correct cube action to be Double/Take and Double/Pass, when white has made his 2 point.

Position 1 First Cube

10 Checkers in the range + Split Checkers

Backgammon Blitz 2pt 1

I am counting the split checkers as 0.5.   This is consistent with articles where white’s 4 point was made and where the 3 point was made.  This brings the total count for a Double and a Take to 10.5.

Position 2 First Pass

11 Checkers in the range + a back checker that has almost escaped

We start to run out of checkers to bring down from white’s 13 point.  I am counting the checker that has almost escaped as 1.  There is a bit of guesswork or estimation in assigning this value.  However, it is obviously more advantageous than a split checker within black’s home board.  This brings the total count for a Double and a Pass to 12.

Summary

10 Checkers in the range plus split back checkers is a Double and a Take.  I count this as 10.5.

11 Checkers in the range plus a back checker almost escaped is a Double and a Pass.  I count this as 12.

Table 1 shows the number of checkers in the range that is need for cube action decisions based on the data derived from articles 1-4 of the current series.
